Plastic Free Pantry

The Plastic Free Pantry was born from the view that 2025 is not soon enough to quit plastic, that scenes of litter-strewn beaches are far too common, and that trash is ending up in the oceans, inside wildlife, and inside us. Plastic Free Pantry is taking action against plastic now by offering whole foods and pantry staples such as rice, pasta, dried fruit, beans, and lentils in paper or home compostable plant film, with no plastic in sight.

Notes to Editors

About YouK

YouK is the UK’s first website to provide consumers with comprehensive information and access to all things made or designed in the UK. We believe this is a world-first, based on 10 people-years of research.

It works on all platforms and is a sophisticated and responsive web app. Users can search local maps, browse any consumer category, or seek brands by such features as vegan or cruelty-free certification.

YouK’s philosophy is simple – every time you buy a product made in the UK, everyone wins.  The aim is to enable consumers to consciously select their purchases, supporting the environment, UK jobs and, in turn, our public services.

Through its innovative YouK Scoring system, consumers can choose from many hundreds of thousands of ‘made in the UK’ products. How it works is that each brand or product is individually rated from one to five, ranging from partially to substantially made in the UK. Three main factors are assessed:

Design / Research and Development:  designed by a team in the UK – this can include innovation or research and development, for example in pharmaceuticals.
Manufacture / Produce: farm produce, UK landed fish or the quality and extent of manufacture; ranging from the basic assembly of parts made elsewhere, to finished products substantially manufactured in the UK.
Input Materials: the amount of UK produced material which the product is made from.

About the founder

YouK was founded in Edinburgh by Business Development and IT Specialist Derek Poots. Derek’s vision was to create a marketplace where every single brand featured supports the environment, UK workers, and UK public services.

The development team are all under 30 and huge enthusiasts for YouK’s proposition.

Investments received

YouK received a Design Grant from Scottish Enterprise and is partly funded by the European Structural and Investment Funds Programme 2014 – 2020.
