October is #FairtradeMonth. Fair Trade Month raises awareness about the importance of the Fair Trade movement to our global economy and promotes buying from businesses that are committed to Fair Trade in place of those which may harm the environment, the economy, communities, and disadvantaged individuals.
The Fair Trade Federation explains that “Fair Trade supports farmers and craftspeople in developing countries who are socially and economically marginalized. These producers often face steep hurdles in finding markets and customers for their goods.” By choosing brands which support Fair Trade, you strengthen communities, empower producers, grow artisan and farmer businesses, support fair wages and safe working conditions and encourage the development of socially and environmentally responsible brands.
As well as listing brands producing goods within the UK, YouK lists Fair Trade Foundation Certified brands. These brands use Fair Trade approved suppliers for raw materials, in particular, materials such as sugar, tea and coffee which cannot be produced in the UK. Below, we have listed some of the best Fair Trade brands listed on YouK!
