Amaiz Swimwear recently won our YouK Innovation Award for their range of contemporary swimwear. Their modern swimwear gives women more coverage, more choice, more style. We spoke to founder Anesa to learn more about their exciting brand.

What was the inspiration behind creating your own swimwear brand?

I couldn’t find swimwear that I was comfortable wearing. This inspired me to create an inclusive brand that empowered women with their swimwear choices. The shops offered beautiful prints and colours but the swimwear styles were limited. My creations offer the best of both worlds.

Why did you decide to keep manufacturing based in the UK?

Manufacturing in the UK offers a number of benefits. I can visit the manufacturer at any given time and keep a close eye on production. The minimums are a lot lower which allows me to not over produce and add to the problem of over consumption, the turnaround is also quicker which allows me to manufacture on demand.

Most importantly I can make a small contribution to keeping the textile industry alive in the UK.

Empowering women and making them feel confident in their swimwear, with more options than currently available, is incredibly important to me.

How, and why, did you decide to make your products with Italian Lycra?

Fabric that is weaved with Lycra in Italy is world renowned as being one of the best performing swimwear fabrics. Some of the high end sportswear brands use these fabrics.

It is considerably more expensive to use but quality was very important to me. I wouldn’t produce anything that I wouldn’t wear myself.

Your swimwear is designed to empower and give women confidence- is this something that is important to you?

Empowering women and making them feel confident in their swimwear with more options than currently available is incredibly important to me.

I myself struggled with feeling confident in my swimwear, I would usually sit by the pool rather than getting in, or wear completely inappropriate clothing to get in to the pool. I would also wear many layers to get the level of coverage I happy with , which is not ideal in the heat or water! After talking with other women, I found that I wasn’t the only one struggling with this issue.

What have you found most rewarding about starting and creating your own Brand?

The most rewarding thing about creating Amaiz is when I get feedback from women, enjoying themselves in or around water when previously they wouldn’t have felt comfortable.

Being a fashion designer I was able to help myself and now I can help others find a new found confidence just like I did.
